All is set for Bisease Abangye Festival
The Ajumako Bisease Township is witnessing massive preparations and an inflow of visitors from across the world as the Chiefs and people gear up for the Bisease Abangye Festival that takes off from July 29 to August 6.
The people are upbeat about the festival that is expected to unite them, promote peace and stimulate development as citizens identify and tackle the problems affecting their growth in line with the theme for this year’s festival, “Developing the potentials of the YOUTH for Accelerated Development”.
Ajumako Bisease Hene and Adontehene of Ajumako Traditional Area, Nana Danfo Baah VII, is calling on citizens of the area home and abroad, Ghanaians and tourists to come home and savor the proverbial Ghanaian hospitality and rich culture as they mingle together in unity and love.
He is hopeful the event would contribute to the development of the community.
Ajumako Bisease is a community in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District in the Central Region of Ghana. The community can boast as the largest community in the district with a population of over 27,000 people. Ajumako Bisease is the Adonten State of the Ajumako Traditional Area. It is constituted of eight Clans namely Asona, Twidan, Kona, Yogo, Aboradze and Yoko. Each of the clans is headed by an Ebusuapanyin.
History tells that Bisease was founded by the Asona Clan hence; the Odikuro of the town is selected from the Asona Clan. There are other sub-chiefs and elders who spports the Odikuro in ruling his people. The Ancestors of Bisease trace their roots from Techiman in the Brong Ahafo region of Ghana.
The people of Ajumako Bisease have a rich culture which is resonated in the celebration of its annual festival which is celebrated in the first week of August every year. History has it that in the whole Central Region, Ajumako-Bisease is the only community that celebrates a ritual known as “Asosonsu” where the ancestry spirit reveals the fortunes of coming year of the people in the community to the Nananom.
Over the years, the festival has been patronized by people in higher offices, from far and near as well as others of all walks of life; notables among them are the former Head of State, Members of Parliament, DCE’s for Ajumako Enyan Essiam Constituency and other Constituencies.
The long cherished festival is at its peak on the first Friday of August with traditional activities starting in the morning and continuing throughout to the end of the day . The most significant aspects of the festival are the Mpapapim and Casting Of Asosonsu to predict the fate of the people for the coming year. This years' is the second to be celebrated since the installation of Nana Damfo Baah VII as chief of Ajumako-Bisease.
The Abangye Festival is a commemoration of the protection of properties of warriors during the days of war. The warriors kept their belongings under a big tree and protected the tree with palm branches. They came back to find their items intact. The cutting of the branches also helped them count the citizens since each person was required to participate in it. It is held yearly on the first Friday of August.
Activities for the Festival include clean-up and keep fit exercises, Asafo Akwambo cutting of palm trees, Parading of Twins, Football Gala and games, Cooking competition, a Durbar of Chiefs, Fund Raising and Crowning of Miss Abangye which takes place on August 2.
The legendary King Ayisoba will lead an array of artistes to make the festival very lively.
